Brixton tube station

Brixton is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Lambeth. The southern terminus of the Victoria line is in Travelcard Zone 2 at the Brixton High Street. In 2011, 22.51 million passengers used the station. The railway station of the same name is located approximately 100 meters north of the Viaduct of the Chatham Main Line.

The station was opened on 23 June 1971 together with the southernmost section to Victoria. From the main hall three escalators leading to platforms. The tracks end blunt, there is no turning facility. Both incoming and departing trains can run on both tracks. Just north of the station there is a track change. The numerous train crossings reduce the maximum capacity of the line. For this reason, a single-track turnaround loop is planned, which should reach up to 1.2 kilometers to the south-east railway station Herne Hill.
