Broad Front (Uruguay)

The Frente Amplio (FA, Spanish Broad Front ) is a left party alliance in Uruguay, which includes about 40 different parties and organizations. It was founded on February 5, 1971. The party is with José Mujica the current President of Uruguay.

The strongest member organizations are to President Mujica led by the Tupamaros Movimiento de Participación Popular, grouping Espacio 90 in which the Partido Socialista del Uruguay is a member and the group Asamblea Uruguay, as the latter also occupies a center-left orientation. Furthermore, the Partido Comunista de Uruguay formerly strong belongs to the FA, which combines much of the left in the country by the Social Democrats and the left wing of the Christian Democracy to various organizations of the radical left.
