Broadacre City
Broadacre City is a system developed by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright urban concept. Wright presented his idea in 1932 published article The Disappearing City in 1935 in the form of a model that formulates a cut of about 10 square kilometers of its vision architectural and urban design. The model was created by students in his Taliesin studio.
Conception
Wright's vision for the American development is antithetical to the concept of the city and in particular a counter-thesis to the visions of the representatives of the architectural avant-garde, which is compact, imagine as in Le Corbusier plan Voisin, the city of the future as a streamlined machine. Wright, however, proposes a suburban, decentralized landscape in which the residents to live independently and highly mobile. The Broadacre City represents both a planerisches statement, as well as a utopian model of society in which each U.S. family one acre ( 4,000 m²) would get assigned country. Due to the " rebirth " of the country in the form of an agglomeration -free agricultural landscape, inhabited by self-determined people who farm their own land, a new, relying on family, spirituality and knowledge community should emerge after Wright.
The private transport in the form of automobiles is preferred in Wright's utopia as an autonomous means of transportation. Pedestrians to move safely only within their acres. A sophisticated information and communication technology should always ask the residents of Broadacre City with all the information he needs. "Where are the citizens also goes (and even while he goes ), he has information, housing and entertainment. What he needs, what he have or want to know is always easy for him to reach. " ( Frank Lloyd Wright 1935).
Wright came to his death in 1959 again and again in books and articles to speak to the concept of Broadacre City.
Retrospect it seems that " Broadacre City" foreshadow the state of today's American city, the so-called Edge City acts as an unplanned, incomplete version of Broadacre City.
