Broadband

A broadband network is a data network, transfer in which, in contrast to the baseband network, the digital data does not directly, but are modulated in one or more high frequency carriers.

Different frequency ranges for transmitting and receiving data is generally used, which are connected by (analogous working ) converter.

The broadband technology allowed in the 1980s using proven high-frequency components from the cable television technology, the realization of networks that could be more complex and spatially extensive than with baseband technology was possible.

Due to the rapidly rising rates of base -band networks, the use of optical fibers and the availability of cheaper, faster network components such as switches, this technique is now obsolete in the area of wired local area networks and is practically no longer used. Today existing applications of broadband technology are Internet connections via cable TV networks and wireless networks.

With the advent of faster Internet connections such as DSL Broadband is the term now used for all sinnentfremdet (subjectively ) fast data connections.
