Broadview Heights is a city on the southern edge of the Cuyahoga County in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is located 20.7 kilometers south of Cleveland, on the edge of the associated belt suburb and close to the crossing point of Interstate 77 to Interstate 80, the city is 13.07 square miles (33.85 km ²) in size and had (2010) 19,400 inhabitants, of which 91.0 % White.

Geography

The city is located on a ridge that extends west between the Cuyahoga River in the east and the Rocky River. It is one of the highest places in Cuyahoga County. Neighboring communities are North Royalton in the West, Parma, Seven Hills and Independence to the north, Brecksville in the east. In the south of Medina County and Summit County border on.

Broadview Heights is predominantly residential community and consists of scattered, hardly cohesive residential areas. Large parts of the urban area is wooded and crossed by small streams that drain to the east. There are two golf courses as well as some minor commercial businesses near the highways. Between 1966 and 1993, the state of Ohio a psychiatric clinic operation here on the grounds of a former lung sanatorium of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

History

The place was originally just on the boundary line between the two townships Royalton and Brecksville and was thus divided in the middle. The border ran along the main road, the Broadview Road. As the western and eastern settlements 1918 ( North Royalton ) and 1922 ( Brecksville ) ausgründeten, eventually followed Broadview Heights in 1926. Thus, the political division was indeed overcome, but nothing changed in the school districts. Broadview Heights does not own schools, but is divided in this respect exactly at said boundary line between the two neighboring cities.

The population remained low until well into the 20th century. Only after the Second World War and the building of the motorways continued strong population growth, despite stagnant and eventually even declining population in Großaum Cleveland still persists.
