Broadway Melody 1936 is an American film musical by Roy Del Ruth from the year 1935.

Action

Robert " Bob" Gordon wants to launch a new Broadway show on the stage, but suffers from shortage of money. Then he gets a supply of money by the young widow Lillian Brent on the condition that they may dance in his new show. The journalist Bert Keeler gets this information and writes about it in his column in a slightly insulting Art Gordon's old classmate Irene Foster, a tap dancer from Albany also strives for the lead role in the show, but Lillian insists to take on this role themselves. For the reason begin Irene Forster, Bert Keeler and Gordon's secretary Kitty Corbett a little game, so Irene gets the lead role.

Awards

Dave Gould won at the Academy Awards in 1936 the first (of only three times awarded ) Oscar for best dance director. In addition, the film was nominated in the category of best film itself and Moss Hart in the category Best Original Story.
