Brocade

The brocade fabric is a heavy, strong and cohesive atlas, patterned fabric of silk or rayon ( viscose ), the gold or silver threads were woven ( gold or silver brocade ).

Silk brocade consists exclusively of pure silk. The brocade fabric is used as furniture (but only brocade, silk brocade is unsuitable as upholstery ) or wallpaper material and is used for ceremonial garments and shoes. In the past ( and in some cases up to the present time ) brocade was worn by nobles and church dignitaries. The Kaaba ( the holiest site of Islam in Mecca ) is covered with the so-called Kiswah, which consists of black brocade fabric.
