Brocēni

Brocēni ( German Berghof ) is a city in western Latvia.

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1528. The nearby Ciecere Lake contains rich deposits of limestone, which is why in 1938 a cement plant, and in 1939 a factory for art Shale were built here. Through the establishment of workers in the city grew rapidly.

During the Second World War, the German occupiers built next to the factory a concentration camp.

The individual plants were grouped with the Soviet - time to a large combine. After Latvia's accession to the EU, the production of fiber cement corrugated sheets was adjusted. The city rights were granted Brocēni 1992.

Brocēnu novads

The county Brocēni was formed in 2001. 2009, joined four other municipalities. Its population is 7068 (as of 2010).
