Geography

Structure

The community is adjacent to the center of Brockel of the districts barking, the Good Trochel to the deserted village of Nelson and Wensebrock. A large part of the municipal area is forested.

History

Brockel was a place of pilgrimage until the Reformation. South of Brockel there was the Good Trochel with a castle and a park, of whom are still remnants in the state forest Trochel recognizable. Brockel was 1640-1641 of witch hunts affected: Metke Lüdemann, wife of Johann Lüdemann, got into a witch trial.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring village of barking was incorporated.

Attractions

The community is known for the Dutch windmill built in 1860. The Holy Cross church was built of fieldstone and dates from 1804. In earlier times, the town was a place of pilgrimage. The Furtwängler organ of the church has about 2,700 pipes, two manuals and a pedal a total of 17 registers with two paddocks.

Railway

Station

Previously owned Brockel a station on the railway line Bremervörde Walsrode (Section Rotenburg - Visselhoevede ). Today the nearest train stations are in Rotenburg ( Wümme) and Scheessel.

Y route

The community Brockel is particularly affected by the current plans for the Y- line since, according to plans to extend transversely through the village Brockel the new railway line Y- route Hanover-Hamburg/Bremen and partly old listed farmhouse would have to be torn down for it.

Public Institutions, Social and Health

Brockel is the site of a primary school and a nursery school. Furthermore, here is a retirement home and a day care. A health center with family practice and day care is also located in Brockel.
