Geography

Geographical location

The town lies about 70 kilometers northeast of the state capital in the center of Warsaw Nadbużański Landscape Park ( Nadbużański Landscape Park ). Brok is located on the Western Bug a little below the mouth of the river Brok.

History

1233 heard the settlement to the diocese of Płock. On March 26, 1501, the site received its town charter by Kulm law. In the third partition of Poland in 1795 it came under Prussian rule and about this time the first Jews came to Brok. In 1807 the city became part of the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 the newly formed part of Congress Poland. 1869 the place, like a number of other cities of Russia located below the rule, the town charter by Alexander II was withdrawn.

After the end of World War Brok was 1922 again awarded the Town Charter. To the 8th and September 9th 1939 battles took place in the vicinity of the city. The occupation by the Wehrmacht was not until the arrival of the Red Army on 27 August 1944.

Structures

  • The parish church of St. Andrew was built in 1560.
  • The Town Hall was built in the engineer Kalinowski early 19th century according to the plans. Due to lack of funds, no clock could be installed. This was the only building on the 500 - year celebration of the town in 2001.
  • The ruins of the palace tower can be found east of the city. With the construction of the palace was begun in 1617 and it was completed in 1624.
  • The Jewish cemetery is located west of the market at the Dabrowski Street. The cemetery was founded in the 19th century.
