Broken is a British Youth Film / Drama from 2012 directed by Rufus Norris with Tim Roth and Eloise Laurence in the lead roles.

Action

Eleven year old diabetic Skunk lives with her father Archie, her brother and the au pair Kasia in a suburb of London. The summer holidays have just started and she looks forward to a carefree time. A special friendship she connects with Rick, the strange and somewhat unstable young man from the neighborhood. Everything changes when Mr. Oswald, another neighbor, Rick brutally beats after its daughters Rick accused of rape.

Piece by piece now breaks Skunks ideal world together Kasia separates from her boyfriend Mike, who is also Skunks favorite teacher, her father noticed less and less, her first friend must suddenly move to his aunt, Mr Oswald's daughters blackmail and Rick is in the Insane Asylum deported. When Rick comes home for the first time out of the hospital, visited him Skunk. But when she enters Rick's house, which is already his mother pushed down the stairs and killed it, and his father was beaten into a coma. The stress triggers Skunk from a hypoglycemic shock. Ironically, Mr Oswald finds Skunk and saves it at the last minute.

In a dream sequence Skunk takes people from all her childhood goodbye. She wakes up in the hospital, her father sitting at her bed.

Awards (selection)

Starring Rory Kinnear was honored at the British Independent Film Awards in 2012 for Best Supporting Actor. In addition, the film was declared the Best British independent production.
