Bromochlorodifluoromethane, also known as Halon 1211, belongs to the group of halogenated hydrocarbons. This gas is mainly used as an extinguishing agent in fire extinguishing systems and fire extinguishers. In Germany, however, Halon fire extinguisher for most purposes are no longer allowed because halons show a harmful effect on the ozone layer.
