Brompton Cemetery

Brompton Cemetery (English Cemetery Brompton ) is a cemetery near Earl's Court in West Brompton, a part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in South West London. The cemetery opened in 1840 under the name West of London and Westminster Cemetery and is one of the Magnificent Seven in London. The facility is managed by The Royal Parks, Royal Park Administration. The cemetery was founded as a result of Acts of Parliament to improve the catastrophic shortage of space for burials in London, which had led to unsustainable hygienic conditions in the city in the years before. The system is still in use today for occasional funerals, but serves more and more as a park.
