Bronchophony

Bronchophony or Bronchialstimme referred to an investigation of the lungs, which can be applied in the general physical examination and examines whether a compression of lung tissue has occurred.

A bronchophony consists in propagation of high-frequency sound whispered by the patient (usually the word " sixty-six " ) on the chest wall, which is detected by auscultation (as opposed to fremitus, a palpatorisches procedure).

A weakened or missing bronchophony indicates air-containing spaces, eg as part of a pneumothorax or emphysema. Increasingly she is in condensations of lung tissue, such as pneumonia. In atelectasis with displaced airway can be found an attenuated bronchophony. Other hand, minor atelectasis can also lead to increased bronchophony.
