Bronco Horvath

Joseph " Bronco " Horvath ( born March 12, 1930 in Port Colborne, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( center ) and coach, who, from 1955 to 1968 for the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota North Stars played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Horvath had to wait until they had become in the NHL attention to him. He played five years with the Springfield Indians and the Syracuse Warriors in the AHL before he moved to the Edmonton Flyers in the WHL and was top scorer of the league there. Here he played along with the then 19 -year-old Johnny Bucyk.

For the 1955/56 season, the New York Rangers bought the rights to Horvath that were until then the Detroit Red Wings. After a good first season, the Rangers sold him after a few games in his second year at the Montraal Canadiens. Here he came only to use one and played mostly in the AHL for the Rochester Americans.

The following summer, the Boston Bruins picked him in the Intra League Draft in their squad. Along with Johnny Bucyk Vic Stasiuk and who were also both of Ukrainian descent, he formed the " Uke Line". In this storm series, he had his most successful years and in the season 1959/60 he was with 39 goals along with Bobby Hull 's top scorer in the NHL. Hull scored one assist more and became the top scorer in the league. The Bruins reached this year's final series for the Stanley Cup, but there were subject to the Montreal Canadiens.

About Intra League Drafts he changed in the following years the team regularly. The 1961/62 season he played for the Chicago Blackhawks, a year later, he returned to the Rangers back, but let him go before the season ends to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Up to end of his career he played mostly in the AHL for the Rochester Americans. This time was interrupted by a brief return to the NHL. The Minnesota North Stars, where Bill Masterton had died, received the rights to it by the Maple Leafs. So he ran another 14 games on the jersey of the new team.

Later he worked for the North Stars as a trainer before he coached the London Knights in the OHA and the Cape Cod Cubs.
