Bronski Beat

Bronski Beat was a British synth - pop group of the 1980s. It consisted of Steve Bronski and Larry Steinbachek who were responsible for keyboard and percussion, and singer Jimmy Somerville.

History

The group was founded in 1983. The following year, her debut single, Small Town Boy, which is about a boy who is despised by his fellow men because of his homosexuality appeared. The next single Why? dealt with the same subject, but the song was both lyrically and musically darker and harder.

The end of 1984 the group released the album The Age of Consent. On the inner sleeve of the LP, the age of consent for homosexual acts in the various countries of the world was represented. In the third single It Is not Necessarily So three stories of the Old Testament are interpreted (David vs. Goliath from 1 Samuel Book of Jonah, Moses birth of second book of Moses ), the text was written by Ira Gershwin and was already in 1935 in the opera Porgy and Bess premiered. The clarinet solos were played by Richard Coles, with the Somerville The Communards later founded. 1985 recorded a cover version of Donna Summer's I Feel Love hit the three, along with Marc Almond. In this piece, the song Love to Love You Baby and Johnny Remember Me were processed into a medley.

Shortly after Somerville left the band and founded with Richard Coles The Communards. In Bronski Beat singer John Foster got in, which was clearly apolitical and did not have such a distinctive voice like Somerville. The Single Hit That Perfect Beat was a great success again. This was followed by a less successful song ( C'mon C'mon ) and the album Truth Dare Double Dare. After the group split up.

1995 failed the band with a comeback attempt with the album Rainbow Nation, which consisted of old material and new songs.
