Location and data

Bronte is 54 km northwest of Catania on the western slopes of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture ( pistachio ) and industry.

The neighboring municipalities are Adrano, Belper, Bianca Villa, Castiglione di Sicilia, Centuripe (EN), Cesarò (ME), Longi (ME), Maletto, Maniace, Nicolosi, Randazzo, Sant'Alfio, Tortorici (ME), Troina (EN) and Zafferana Etnea.

History

In the Middle Ages there were 24 small villages. These belonged to the Monastery of Maniace. 1520 Charles V made ​​from all the places the city of Bronte. 1799 Admiral Nelson received by King Ferdinand IV the title of Duke of Bronte ( Duca di Bronte) and Bronte as a fief.

Bronte was in 1651, in 1832 and 1843 destroyed by eruptions of Etna.
