Bronze quoll

Dasyurus spartacus is a bag species of the genus Quoll, which is endemic to New Guinea. Little is known about them. This type, which is characterized by its bronzed coat, was first discovered in the early 1970s, when five copies were found. Investigated for the first time and recognized as a separate species, it was however only in 1987 by the zoologist Dr. Stephen Van Dyck, who worked at the Queensland Museum. Initially, this Quoll was kept as outsiders population of Black-tailed bag marten.

This species is the largest living carnivorous marsupial of New Guinea.
