Brothers in Arms (English for " brothers in arms ") is the fifth studio album by British rock band Dire Straits. The album was published in 1985 sold as the most successful group of more than 30 million times, making it one of the thirty best-selling albums in music history. It also had one of the first digital album productions major role in the establishment of the medium compact disc

Production

The album was designed as one of the first productions for publication as CD and completely digital (DDD ) was added.

In the almost 10 minutes long CD version, no bonus tracks is included, as was often the case at that time to justify the significantly higher price of the CD to a vinyl LP. Instead, several songs are much longer than the corresponding LP versions ( inter alia Your Latest Trick and Brothers in Arms ). Brothers in Arms is considered the first album in CD form has such an advantage over the record version.

Tour

Three weeks before the first release of the album, the band began their great Brothers -in- Arms - tour. Prelude was the concert on 25 April 1985 in Split, Yugoslavia. On their tour Dire Straits played 234 concerts in over a hundred cities in front of a total of about 2.5 million people. Among other things, the band 13 times occurred at the Wembley Arena, July 3, 1985. The album reached the top spot of the charts worldwide. In the United Kingdom about the album placed a total of ten weeks at the top of the album charts. In Canada, the album peaked on April 23, 1986 10x Platinum ( CRIA ), in the United States on 7 August 1996 9x Platinum ( RIAA ) and in the UK on 31 October 1997 13x Platinum ( BPI). There, the album has gone over the counter 3.95 million times (as of November 2006).

The Rolling Stone leads the album at number 351 of his " list of the best 500 albums of music history " (September 2008).
