Brotula multibarbata

Brotula is a genus of marine fish of the family of cusk ( Ophidiidae ). It occurs worldwide in tropical and subtropical oceans.

Features

Brotula differs in the three Bartel pairs of snout and lower jaw from all other cusk. The fish are elongated and reach maximum lengths of 15-115 cm. Your body is completely covered with small round scales. The number of Branchiostegalstrahlen is eight. The narrow, throat constant pelvic fins are supported by only two fin rays. On the first branchial arch, there are four functional gills Reuse rays or less. The average tooth plate on Basibranchiale ( bone at the base of the branchial arch ) is missing.

Way of life

Fully Accreted Brotulas live Benthopelagic to depths of 650 meters. Juveniles are often observed in reefs. Small, silvery juveniles also epipelagic in the open sea.
