Brovary

Brovary (Ukrainian Бровари; Russian Бровары = " brewer " ) is a city in the Ukraine in the Kiev Oblast with 90.411 inhabitants ( 2006). Brovary than twelve kilometers from Kiev.

History

The first mention of the city in 1630. According to the construction of the railway and a station in 1868 Brovary became an important transportation center. From 1934 to 1941 frequented the place the electrically operated tram Brovary, this came out of the previously existing benzene tram.

Today Brovary is a major industrial (metallurgy, brewery, shoe industry). The city has a developed sports infrastructure. Many well-known Ukrainian athletes and Olympic champions were studying at the local vocational school for Physical Culture, among other things, known from boxing her brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko.

Transmitter

In Brovary there was the transmitter of the on the frequency 207 kHz working long wave transmitter Kiev, built in 1972 and equipped as a transmitting antenna two 257 meters high, insulated from earth, transmission towers, the lower part with a cage antenna was used ( ARRT - type). The long wave broadcasts were discontinued at the end of 2010 and the transmission system formerly used for rebuilt into a medium-wave transmitter, which was operated from 15 May 2012 until 1 January 2013 to 549 kHz. Until December 2012, there were on the transmitter site also several curtain antennas for shortwave and a 180 -meter-high transmission tower for medium wave, the 783 kHz was from 2011 to 2012 as a replacement for the long-wave broadcasts on the frequency in use; the regular shortwave broadcasts had been abandoned in the fall of 2002 due to austerity measures of the Ukrainian foreign ministry Radio Ukraine International. From 2008 to 2010, 5970 kHz from this location was the hour again aired a program on the short- wave frequency, which however has been turned off again due to the poor financial situation of the Ukrainian broadcaster Natsionalna Radiokompanya Ukrainy ( NRKU ). After this outline of the short-wave transmitter and a medium wave mast stands on the station grounds therefore only the former longwave transmitter ( last medium wave transmitter ), it has so far not yet known whether this is to be retained or demolished.

Pending implementation of the austerity measures of the BBC World Service, where also the transmitter Orfordness was turned off, this beamed on the frequency 594 kHz from this location also means a wave program.
