Brown County (Kansas)

Brown County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hiawatha.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Kansas, Nebraska and bordered to the north has an area of 1482 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Doniphan County, Atchison County, Jackson County and Nemaha County.

History

Brown County was formed on 30 August 1855 as original county of free territory and is one of the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Albert Gallatin Brown, a U.S. Senator from Mississippi.
