Brown County (Minnesota)

The Brown County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 25 893 inhabitants and a population density of 16.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is New Ulm, which was named after the origin of the first settlers from Germany.

Geography

The County is located in southern Minnesota at the mouth of the Cottonwood River in the Minnesota River, which limits the County to the northeast. It has an area of 1602 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. At the Brown County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Brown County was formed on February 20, 1855 from portions of Blue Earth County. It was named after Joseph Renshaw Brown, a pioneer in this area.
