Brown Sugar (song)

Brown Sugar is a song by English rock band The Rolling Stones. It is the first title on the 1971 released album Sticky Fingers and was released in early 1971 as a single. Was composed the song by Mick Jagger, who also delivered the open- g guitar riff here, which was then recorded by Keith Richards for recording. The music magazine Rolling Stone chose the piece in 2004 at No. 490 to its list of the 500 best songs of all time.

Genesis

The idea for the song came to the lead singer of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, in 1969 during the filming of the movie Kelly, the Bandit, in which Jagger played the lead role. In the same year already the first recordings of the play began. Some recordings from this period are highly sought after among bootleg collectors, including a version that can be heard on the Eric Clapton on slide guitar. Because of the offending text but no recording was initially published.

In the documentary Gimme Shelter from the year 1970, the song was played for the first time in a short demo version, as well as titles and You Gotta Move Wild Horses, which are also represented at Sticky Fingers.

The single release of Brown Sugar in May 1971 became a number -one hit in the U.S. and a number -two hit in the UK. Since then, he is one of the most famous classic rock songs. While the U.S. single B-side only the title Bitch got a live version of the Chuck Berry song Let It Rock was annexed in the UK even further, to the Stones in 1971 played at several concerts.

Reception and meaning

Brown Sugar is one of the standard songs that the Stones perform at their concerts. It has been played since 1971 on every tour. Live versions are on the albums Love You Live (1977 ) Flashpoint (1991) and Live Licks (2004) to hear.

In 1982 released concert film Let's Spend the Night Together by Hal Ashby and in the rotated by Martin Scorsese concert documentary Shine a Light from the year 2008, the title is also represented.
