Brownsville is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 15,313 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Brownsville is bordered by the cities of Hialeah and Miami, as well as to the CDP Gladeview.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 15,313 inhabitants distributed to 5,797 households. The population density was 2439.5 inh. / Km ². 19.8 % of the population were white, 74.7 % African American, 0.3% Native American and 0.0% Asian Americans. 3.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 25.7 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 28.4 % of all households lived in 41.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 66.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.01 and the average family size is 3.74 people.

33.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.0% were 20-39 years old, 25.0 % were 40-59 years old and 15.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 31 years. 47.6 % of the population were male and 52.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 26,149, while 35.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 89.24 % of the population spoke Spanish 10.22% and 0.53 % spoke Haitian.

Traffic

Brownsville is traversed or affected by the Florida State Roads 9, 112 ( Airport Expressway ) and 944. The train breakpoint Hialeah Market of the Tri-Rail and Miami International Airport are situated near to the west of the CDP.
