Brownwood is the county seat ( county seat ) of Brown County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located at the junction of U.S. Highways 67, 84 and 377, the road in 2524 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the south of the county, exactly at the geographical center of Texas, and has a total area of 32.6 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The city was, as the County, according to Henry Stevenson Brown, a commander at the Battle of Velasco, named. In 1858 the first post office was opened in 1872 Brownwood was a small settlement with two general stores, a log cabin as a district court and five residential buildings. 1876 ​​, after the town had three churches and 120 inhabitants, a bank was opened and built a schoolhouse.
