BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster

The Can-Am Spyder roadster is a trike from the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier Recreational Products, a former subsidiary of Bombardier. Unlike many other trikes, the Spyder has two wheels on the front axle and a central rear wheel.

Development

The idea for the Spyder was created in 1996 during an annual internal design competition of the manufacturer. The idea was to develop a road vehicle whose design should be modeled on the snowmobiles. The first prototype was completed two years later.

Launch

The Spyder was introduced in North America on 20 February 2007 publicly, after which a successive launch took place. He was initially available in some states of the USA and four Canadian provinces. In Europe, the official product launch of the Spyder took place on June 14, 2008 during the 24 -hour race of Le Mans. In Germany the vehicle is sold since July 2008.

Models

The Can-Am Spyder is offered in two variants switching: The SM5 Spyder is equipped with a manual 5 - speed gearbox with reverse gear, the Spyder SE5 with an electronic sequential gearbox. In addition, the Spyder RT was introduced in 2010 - one variant which is specially equipped for driving tour with many new convenience features. Among other things, the luggage space was significantly increased.
