Brseč

Brseč (obsolete German: Berschezh ) is a small town in Croatia.

Geographical Location

Brseč located on Kvarner Bay or on the Istrian peninsula, 20 km south of Opatija. The village lies on a coastal rock around 157 meters above the sea.

History

A few centuries ago was built on the steep rocky coast a castle, around which a medieval settlement and the parish church of St. St. Juraj were built. With defensive walls around the entire city, the inhabitants were protected from predators. Many buildings of that time are still preserved in its original form.

Brseč is the birthplace of the Croatian writer Eugen Kumičić (1850-1904) known. He was a great opponent of Hungarian politics. He became famous, however, for his activities as an author. The conspiracy of the Zrinski and Frankopan and marveled The wedding guests were two of his most famous books.
