Bruce Jay Nelson

Bruce Jay Nelson ( born January 19, 1952September 19, 1999 in Tel Aviv) was an American computer scientist (software for computer networks ).

Nelson Harvey Mudd College studied at the bachelor's degree in 1974 and at Stanford University, with a Master 's degree in computer science in 1976. 1982 he received his doctorate at Carnegie Mellon University in computer science. While working on his dissertation he developed with Andrew Birrell at Xerox Parc Research on Remote Procedure Call ( RPC). For both received the 1994 ACM Software System Award ( 2007 and arrived in the Operating Systems Hall of Fame ACM). In 1996 he was Chief Science Officer at Cisco Systems. In 1999, he died on a business trip in Tel Aviv due to complications from an emergency surgery for aortic dissection.

He was very unconventional and an avid outdoor activist, mountaineers, apnea divers, world traveler and photographer.
