Bruce Johnstone (racing driver)

Bruce Johnstone ( born January 30, 1937 in Durban ) is a former South African racing driver.

Bruce Johnstone drove in the late 1950s touring car racing on a Volvo and moved in 1960 to the single-seaters. In South Africa, he was a well-known racing driver when he at Formula Libre South African Grand Prix, finished sixth. The race was won by the Belgian Grand Prix driver Paul Frère. In 1961 he was awarded second place overall behind Syd van der Vyver in the South African Formula championship. This success earned him a contract for the Yeoman Credit Racing Team by Reginald Parnell. The partnership was under an unlucky star. Both the Natal Grand Prix as well as during practice for the Grand Prix of South Africa Johnstone had an accident.

In 1962, the South Africans to Europe. He won with Peter Ashdown on a Lotus 23 the class to 1.5 -liter in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring. He drove a factory B.R.M. Gold Cup at Oulton Park and was at the end of the year with the BRM P48 ninth Grand Prix of South Africa.
