Brugnato

Brugnato ( in Ligurian: Brigné ) is a municipality with 1264 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian region of Liguria. It belongs to the province of La Spezia.

Geography

The place is located about 20 km northwest of the provincial capital of La Spezia, about 65 km south-east of the regional capital is Genoa and about 344 km north-west of the Italian capital Rome in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, 1663 GG

Brugnato lies on the River Vara in the Val di Vara, in a large alluvial plain at the foot of the Ligurian Apennines. Close to the church are the mouths of the two streams Gravegnola and Chicciola in the Vara. Brugnato forms part of the Comunità Montana della Bassa Val di Vara Media e and also part of the Natural Park of Monte Marcello Magra.

The only hamlet ( Frazione ) the municipality is Bozzolo (276 m, about 30 inhabitants, located about 1 km north-west ). He came in 1956 under the Municipality of Brugnato, before he was one of Zignago.

The neighboring municipalities are Borghetto di Vara, Rocchetta di Vara, Sesta Godano and Zignago.

History

The village was founded in the 7th century when the abbey of the Monks of San Colombano. From the 8th century, the town is mentioned in several diplomas, among others, Charles III. , Otto III. and Henry II. Innocent II elevated the town to the diocese, which held existed until 1820. Since 999, the place was now called city. While under the protection of the Republic of Genoa City was saved from this 1215 against the attempted takeover of the Malaspina and installed the family of the Fieschi as governor. After the takeover of the Ghibellines as rulers of Genoa 1313, the ruler of the city of Brugnato fled to Pontremoli. Then took until the 16th century, the Malaspina locality, forgave them as feudal system to the Fregoso. With the popular uprising of 1530, the city returned to Genoa. 1820, the diocese was incorporated into the Luni - Sarzana, which merged into the diocese of La Spezia - Sarzana- Brugnato from 1929.

Culture

2006 Brugnato was by Touring Club Italiano, the Orange Flag presented that distinguishes an outstanding quality in the areas of nature and tourism. A year later, in 2007, the community was incorporated as the thirteenth Ligurian village, in the register of the most beautiful villages in Italy (I più belli d' Italia borghi ), which is guided by the Associazione nazionale comuni italiani.

Attractions

  • Cattedrale dei Ss. Pietro, Lorenzo e Colombano, cathedral or co-cathedral dating from the 11th or 12th century, which grew out of a basilica dating from the 8th century.
  • Dell'Accola Chiesa, Church from the time of the Lombards near Borghetto di Vara, was in the 15th century, structural changes and contains frescoes from the 17-18. Century (Madonna col Bambino, Sant'Antonio Abate e San Giovanni Battista and Our Lady of Sorrows and Saints )
  • Convento dei Padri Passionisti, 1635 completion of construction of a convent of the Franciscans. Contains paintings from the 17-18. Century and was acquired in 1843 by the Order of the Passionists.
  • Diocesan Museum in the Palazzo Vescovile ( Bishop's Palace from the 14th century), contains an Altarpiece (Madonna del Rosario, San Pietro e San Domenico ) by Cesare Corte Giuseppe Vermiglio the work Orazione di Gesù nell'orto and the lactatio di San Bernardo by Gian Lorenzo Bertolotto.
  • Oratorio di San Bernardo, oratorio in the village, which was formerly dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata and in 1610 received its current name.
  • Ponte Romano, also called Ponte Roma Nico, antique bridge at Brugnato on the medieval road from Pontremoli to Sestri Levante. The bridge is probably of Roman origin, the oldest document of the bridge comes from 1660, when the bridge had to be repaired after a flood.
  • Santuario di Nostra Signora dell'Ulivo, sanctuary a few kilometers outside the town. Was built around 1600 on an older design.
  • City gates Medieval Gates and Porta Sottana, which still exists today (and only) city gates of the medieval city wall.
  • Chiesa di Sant'Antonio, parish church in the district Bozzolo. Founded in the 18th century on a dating from the 1350 church.

Traffic

The place has the junction Brugnato - Borghetto di Vara on the Autostrada A12 motorway.
