Bruniales

Inflorescence a Brunia

The Bruniales are an order of plants of the asteroids. They comprise two families with 14 genera and are located in the Kapensis as well as in Central and South America.

Description

The species of the order have only a few morphological similarities. Bruniales are woody, evergreen plants, at a node branches off only one leaf trace and leaves a gap. Its flowers are zygomorphic, the anthers fused at the base. The ovules are weak crassinucellat.

System

The Bruniales are within the Euasteriden II, the sister group of a clade of carding -like, Doldenblütlerartigen and Paracryphiales. It contains only two families:

The taxa of the order and the order itself were often rearranged, in particular the Columelliaceae were often also made to the cards -like. The species of different genera share relatively few morphological features to each other, the relationship is rather determined molecular genetics. The age of the order is estimated at almost 94 million years.
