Bruno, Duke of Saxony

Brun (c. 830/840; † February 2 880 ) from the family of Liudolfinger was the son of the Saxon Count Liudolf and Billungerin Oda. He is considered the founding father of the Brunonen.

Brun fell on February 2, 880 in the fight against the Normans (see Norman battle 880). The event was included in the contemporary historiography of fuldischen annals, and the dead was thought dead in the annals of the same monastery as Earl and brother of the queen, comes et fr ( ater). Even in the remote monastery of Reichenau sent you their names entered there in the brotherhood book. Bruns heritage as the main Liudolfinger joined his brother Otto to the Illustrious.

In the earlier research, it was undisputed that the Liudolfinger occupied the leading position in Saxony in the second half of the 9th century. Already the 866 deceased ancestor Liudolf was considered a " tribal Duke ", which his sons followed in his Brun and Otto Rank. Recent research has evaluated this view restrained. The emergence of the " younger duchy " in Saxony in the second half of the 9th century, is now the subject of intense re-evaluation.
