Bruno Metsu

Bruno Metsu (2012 )

Bruno Metsu ( born January 28, 1954 in Coudekerque -Village, † October 14, 2013 same place ) was a French football player and coach. After his conversion to Islam he changed his name to Abdul Karim.

Playing career

As a teenager, Metsu played at SC Hazebrouck and RSC Anderlecht. In 1972 he moved to French Zweitdivisionär USL Dunkerque, 1975 U.S. Valenciennes, for which he completed 119 Erstligapartien to 1979. As more stations followed every two years at Lille and OGC Nice. By 1983, Metsu had completed 209 Erstligaeinsätze in which he marked 20 results.

It joined in short engagements with SCO Roubaix and AS Mont Ferrand. From 1984 to 1987 he was as a player, then until 1992 worked as a coach for AS Beauvais.

Coaching career

After the five years, coach of AS Beauvais Metsu was formerly active in the French League football and worked for OSC Lille ( 1992/93 ), U.S. Valenciennes (1993 /94), CS Sedan ( 1995-1998) and ASOA Valence (1998 /99).

From 2000 he trained, among others, the national teams of Senegal and the United Arab Emirates.

With the Senegal, he participated in the Football World Cup 2002 in part, defeated in the opening game of the former world champions France 1-0 and moved into the quarter-finals. There, the team failed in extra time to Turkey. For Senegal it was so far the only World Cup.

End of September 2008 came Metsu due to persistent failure as national coach of the United Arab Emirates back. He was coach of the team since 2006. He was coach of the national team of Qatar From October 2008 to January 2011.

On July 12, 2012, he replaced Diego Maradona as coach of Al Wasl. He said on October 26, 2012 his resignation after case of hospitalization in Dubai, a colorectal carcinoma was found.

Metsu died on October 14, 2013 at the age of 59 years in Coudekerque -Village in Nord cancer.
