Bruno of Augsburg

Brun ( o) of Augsburg ( † 6 or April 24, 1029 in Regensburg ) was from 1006 to 1029 Bishop of Augsburg.

Life

Brun ( o) was the younger son of Henry the Wrangler, Duke of Bavaria, and his wife Gisela of Burgundy. He was the brother of the future Emperor Henry II († 1024) and later Hungarian Queen Gisela, who was married to King Stephen I.. Between 1002 and 1005 to Brun ( o) stopped due to a quarrel with his brother Henry in Hungary. There he supported Stephen in building his administration. Henry called his brother after the replacement of its first Chancellor Egilbert, who later became Bishop of Freising (1005-1039) back, made him in 1005 to his chancellor and appointed him the following year as Bishop of Augsburg.

The relationship between the two brothers was changeable, sometimes very curious. Brun ( o) remained, however, even after the death of his brother Heinrich German chancellor and bishop of Augsburg. ( Sophia, Abbess of Essen and Gander home and Adelheid, Abbess of Quedlinburg ) - - After the death of Henry II († 1024), the two daughters of Otto II and Theophano were next to Brun ( o) the last living in the kingdom of the Ottos. Since all three a clerical career had taken, they could not inherit Henry II. Crucial for the smooth change of dynasty of the Ottonian the Salian (or the smooth succession of Conrad II ) was the partisanship of the last Ottonian for and against Conrad II Conrad the Younger, who was also a cousin and Salian Conrad II and from 1036 to 1039 served as Duke of Carinthia.

Brun ( o) was founded in 1026 by Conrad II with the education and training his son and successor, Henry III. commissioned. This means de facto transfer of the regency during the Italian campaign of Conrad II ( 1026-1027 ). At Easter 1027 was Brun ( o) with his pupil Heinrich in Rome and took part in the coronation of Conrad II. He also in 1027 took part in the Synod of Frankfurt. The Brun ( o) relative to Konrad was very good, he was considered one of the most important adviser of Saliers.
