Life

After school Piglhein began training the sculptor Julius Lippelt and moved to his premature death (1864 ), nor during his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, which he alleged lack of talent would have to leave after only two years, when John Schilling had he not better recognized and taken into his studio, where he performed a fountain sculpture out of various plastic drafts. After a short stay in Italy he went over to the painting and visited on the recommendation of Schilling Ferdinand Pauwels at the Art School in Weimar, where he remained for six months. 1871 moved Piglhein with 22 years in the studio of Wilhelm von Diez in Munich. In this city Piglhein remained for the rest of his life.

In the years 1885-1886 Piglhein undertook extensive study trips to Paris and Jerusalem. There his studies for his later magnum opus, " The Crucifixion " emerged. In the same year he returned to Munich Piglhein was promoted to professor. As such, he was instrumental in the 1892 founding of the Secession, and then also its first president.

During this time, Piglhein turned to the decorative style of Hans Makart, with which he embodied some stately town houses and patrician villas just in Hamburg. He painted some mythological representations in the manner of Böcklin ( Kentaurenbilder ), portraits and animal parts, used 1882/84 (mainly the pastel) ( women's and children portraits, Pieretten, Spanish dancers, courtesans ) and achieved success with religious representations ( Moritur in Deo, 1879 [ Berlin, Nationalgalerie ] ), particularly in 1886 with his major work, the Panorama: Jerusalem on the day of the crucifixion of Christ. Joseph Halder, a businessman from Munich, summed up the thoughts, one of the most moving scenes in the world history, the crucifixion of Christ, as a panoramic painting ( circular painting ) to be represented. He instructed his passenger Franz Joseph Hotop this, the Munich painter Bruno Piglhein. After his designs, the landscape painter Josef Block, Johann Adalbert Heine and Joseph Warriors led from the work; the figurative part created Piglhein itself This monumental work was exhibited in Munich, Berlin and Vienna, at the latter place it then burned in 1892.
