Bruno Tobback

Bruno Tobback ( born August 22, 1969 in Leuven ) is a Belgian politician of the Socialist Party Other ( sp.a ). Tobback was from 2004 to 2007 Minister of Environment and Pensions and is since 2007 leader of the sp.a in the Chamber of Deputies. He is the son of former Interior Minister and current Mayor of Leuven Louis Tobback ( sp.a ).

Life

Bruno Tobback is in possession of a diploma in law ( Vrije Universiteit Brussel ( VUB ), 1992 ) and a diploma in Social and Economic Law (University of Ghent ( RUG), 1994). From 1992 to 1994, he completed an internship at the European Commission in the service of the Belgian Commissioner Karel Van Miert (SP). In 1994 he was registered as a lawyer in Brussels, where he was active until 2001.

His political career began in 1995, first as a member of the Provincial Council of Flemish Brabant and in the same year as a member of the Flemish Parliament. In 2001 Tobback took over the chairmanship of the Group Sp.A. In 2004 Tobback was indeed re-elected to the Flemish Parliament, but remained there only a short time when he was appointed Minister of Environment and Inns in the federal government Verhofstadt II under Guy Verhofstadt (Open VLD).

After the big electoral defeat in 2007, the sp.a retired from the federal government and Tobback met as a deputy. In the Chamber of Deputies since he holds the group's presidency of Sp.A.

Bruno Tobback is Commander of the Order of Leopold.
