Brunoy

Brunoy is a French town with 25,492 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region. It forms its own canton and is the seat of the Communauté d' agglomération du Val d' Yerres. The residents' Brunoyen " call themselves.

Geography

Brunoy is located on the Yerres, about 20 kilometers southeast of the city center of Paris. The neighboring municipalities are Yerres in the west and north, Villecresnes in the northeast, Mandres -les -Roses in the east, Epinay- sous- Sénart the southeast, Soisy -sur -Seine in the south and Montgeron in the southwest.

History

From the 5th century francs, settled in the region. Childebert I inherited the kingdom of Paris on the death of his father, Clovis I in the year 511 in the Testament of Dagobert I from the year 638 appeared for the first time the name of Brunoy on, namely in Latin Brennadum.

Beginning of the 18th century, the feudal castle situated on the banks of Yerres was rebuilt. After the French Revolution it was canceled. Mid-18th century resided in this castle a flamboyant personality of Marquis ( Marquis ) Armand- Louis Joseph de Paris Montmartel ( 1748-1781 ). He organized macabre rituals. When his father Jean de Pâris Monmartel death he dressed the city in all black: servant, castle, trees, fountains and horses. Even cows and chickens were painted black. His strange behavior and its waste of money led to the decline - after all, he had to sell possessions and ended in suicide in 1781.

1815, Louis XVIII. the title of Marquis of Brunoy to Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. Many wealthy citizens chose Brunoy as their second home. The 19th century was the era of castles and beautiful property. As an example, the Castle of Reveillon may be called, which now houses the House of Art ( Maison des arts ).
