Brunswick Stew

Brunswick stew is a traditional stew of the southern United States. The origin of the court is not precisely known, and so there are two competing claims to authorship.

Recipe

The recipe for Brunswick Stew is regionally very different. Basically, however, the stew is based on a tomato base to the different varieties of lima beans, corn and other vegetables, and quality meats are added. Most recipes that are considered authentic, contain squirrel or rabbit meat. However, poultry, pork or beef are common nowadays. Some versions give the stew a distinct smoky flavor.

Origin

A debate concerning the origin of Brunswick Stew prevails at present between the city of Brunswick, Georgia and Brunswick County, Virginia.

Canned goods

Brunswick Stew is also available as canned goods; a well-known brand is " Mrs. Fearnow 's ". The farmer's wife Pearl Fearnow began during the 1920s, on their farm in Virginia with the production of their Brunswick Stew. To date, the recipe has remained unchanged, even if the brand is now the Castleberry Food Company belongs.
