Brusy

Brusy [' brusɨ ] ( German: Bruss ) is a city with a seat urban and rural community in Poland in the Silesian Voivodeship.

Geography

The city is located in the Kashubian region, in the Tuchel Heath Tuchola.

City Brusy ( Bruss )

History

1351 the site was created by Kulm law as Bruszk. 1856 a paved road was built, the promoted itself colonizing craft. In 1902 it was connected to the railway network. After the end of World War II, the city became part of the revived Poland. Especially the forestry at that time was an important economic activity for the city.

During the Second World War the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht. Here a satellite camp of Stutthof concentration camp was created with some 500 prisoners on 24 August 1944, which lasted until February / March 1945.

After the invasion of the Red Army, the city became part of Poland. In an administrative reform of the place came 1975 Voivodeship Bydgoszcz. In January 1988, Brusy was awarded city rights. A further reform of administrative divisions disbanded the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship and Brusy in 1999 part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Name

The name of the place is derived from the word " brus " which meant millstone.

Coat of arms

On 9 September 1999 the coat of arms of the city was changed. In the upper half it shows how far half a red griffin on a white background, holding a B. However, the grip the crown was taken. The lower part of the coat of arms is, as before, showing three blue spruce. These were green until 1999, since then they are golden.

Traffic

Through the town the road leads Province 235 ( droga wojewódzka 235). To the south it ends in Chojnice, to the north it merges into the country road 20 ( droga Krajowa 20) about six kilometers west of Kościerzyna. The nearest international airport is about 90 kilometers away, Lech Walesa Airport Gdansk north-east of Brusy.
