Bryan Hextall

Bryan Aldwyn Hextall ( born July 31, 1913 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, † 25 July 1984) was a Canadian ice hockey player ( Right Wing ) and coach, who played from 1936 to 1948 for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.

Career

Before Hextall age of 23 moved to the New York Rangers in the NHL, he had played in Western Canada, including Vancouver.

After three games in the season 1936/37, he made the following season the breakthrough. Many years before this was a common tactic, he played as a left-handed on the right wing. He preferred the angle to the gate, the gave him this position. He succeeded in six consecutive seasons over 20 goals to achieve. He was regularly among the top scorers in the NHL scoring in 1940 and 1941, the most goals in the NHL. In the 1939/40 season, he decided with a goal in injury time, the final series, and secured the Rangers to the Stanley Cup win. Four times in a row, he was elected as the best right winger in the NHL in the NHL All-Star team.

The war and a disease of the liver took him for almost two years from the event. He returned for the season 1946/47, and managed to back over 20 goals. After another season in the NHL, he played another season in the American Hockey League.

A few years later he tried in lower leagues as a coach.

The enthusiasm for hockey, he had his sons Bryan and Dennis specified. Both played for the Rangers and managed by the expansion of the league in the late 1960s over 500 NHL games each. His grandson, Ron Hextall started his NHL career in 1987 and was one of the best goalkeepers of his time.
