Bryan Owsley

Bryan Young Owsley (* August 19, 1798 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky, † October 27, 1849 in Frankfort, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1841 and 1843 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bryan Owsley attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. He settled in Jamestown in Russell County. In 1827 he was secretary at the local district court. Politically, Owsley joined the Whig party to.

In the congressional elections of 1840 he was in the fourth electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Sherrod Williams on March 4, 1841. Since he Democrat George Caldwell defeated in the following election in 1842, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1843. This period was characterized by the tensions between President John Tyler and the Whigs. It was also at that time already been discussed about a possible annexation of the independent Republic of Texas since 1836 by Mexico.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Bryan Owsley was employed from 1845 onwards in the Land Administration Authority in Frankfort. There he is also deceased in October 1849.
