The Bryant - Denny Stadium is an American football stadium on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It serves as the home venue of the college football teams Alabama Crimson Tide, which is organized in the NCAA. The stadium was originally named Denny Stadium, named after George Hutchenson Denny, a former president of the University, and in 1975 provided with the suffix of the success coaches Paul "Bear" Bryant. With an official seating capacity of 101,821, it is the fifth largest stadium in the NCAA and at the same time in North America. Since the 1988 season, the stadium was sold out at every home game.

History

As a replacement for the Denny Field Denny Stadium was opened on 28 September 1929 and opened the following week with a game against the Ole Miss Rebels. Originally, the stadium had a capacity of 12,000 spectators. A first expansion took place in 1937, when the capacity was increased to 18,000. In the years 1950, 1961, 1966, 1988, 1998 and 2006, the capacity was gradually brought to 92 138.

In February 2009, the Supervisory Committee of the University approved a stadium expansion in the south end zone. Since the 2010 season, the ground capacity is 101 821 new.
