BSD-Daemon

The BSD Daemon is the mascot of BSD Unix. He is often called Beastie (which sounds like the rapid pronunciation of the letters BSD ), although Marshall Kirk McKusick explains it (since 1988 winner of the copyrights for the daemon ) for nameless. Some people also call him Chuck, possibly because of the All Star shoes that he wears.

On the significance of the figure and the fork

On Unix operating systems, a daemon is (not equal to homophonic demon), a process that runs in the background and various tasks done without user intervention. The operating system call that a new process can be created, called fork (English for fork); Therefore, the fork that holds the figure in hands. Thus, the figure includes symbols that were derived from the technology of Unix operating systems. This reflects the BSD daemon from the Linux penguin Tux, the lack this imagery is different.

In some parts of the world people of faith bring the operating system because of the mascot or logo in connection with the devil. It costs the FreeBSD community will always take some time to teach those affected better. Occasionally this is not possible.
