The sports club BVG 49 eV (short form: SV Borussia 49 eV ) is a sports club in Berlin- Lichtenberg, who was known nationally by the success of his women's handball team.

The association

The SV VB Berlin was founded in 1949 as an association of the Berlin Transport Authority. The approximately 800 members are organized into eleven sections: gymnastics and athletics for seniors, football, handball, bowling, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, water jump and a shawm orchestra and recreational sports.

Spreebirds (until 2009)

One skilled in the last GDR Oberliga season 1990/91 for the Bundesliga. Even if the spell in the top division initially lasted only one year, the club has developed over the last 17 years to a reliable address in the German women's handball. As a master of the 2nd Bundesliga Nord the club in 1997 rose again to the Bundesliga, this time we was there two years. 2001 we won the championship again the 2nd Bundesliga Nord, a year Bundesliga followed. In the season 2004/ 05 the Berlin city qualified for the play-offs to the Bundesliga promotion, but failed in the first round of South champion Frisch Auf Göppingen ( 23:24, 25:31 ). Overall, the club has played in the Bundesliga 1 and the remaining 13 years in the 2nd Bundesliga since 1991, four years.

Spreefüxxe (from 2009)

For the 2009/10 season, the women's teams of the SV Berlin VG 49 and the Reinickendorfer foxes came together for the Bundesliga match operation to the BVB foxes Berlin ( Spreefüxxe ) and immediately subjected to second in the play-offs a rise.
