BT Group

The BT Group and British Telecommunications, BT short, is a British telecommunications company. BT Group is the holding company of the Group and employs only his board, while the congruent British Telecommunications plc also includes its entire business and assets.

History

Founded as The Electric Telegraph Company in 1846, it is the world's oldest companies in this field. The former state-owned telephone company was privatized under Margaret Thatcher in 1984 by the " Telecommunications Act 1984 " and is now one of the few truly global telecommunications company.

In one published in August 2005, ranking Gartner BT ranks among the top five in an Enterprise Network IT Services area. After a growth spurt of 25 % in 2004 BT makes the leap from number 7 and placed directly behind IBM, HP / EDS and Accenture.

BT in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

In Germany, BT is represented today by BT Germany, headquartered in Munich, which belongs to the line of business, BT Global Services. BT ( Germany) GmbH & Co. oHG has emerged from the former Viag Intercom, formerly a joint venture between BT, VIAG and Telenor of Norway. In 2002, Viag Intercom was split into a fixed network division (now BT Germany ) and a mobile division, which was acquired by the Spanish Telefónica early 2006 and now under Telefónica Germany (brand: O2 ) operates.

In the last financial year ( 2008/ 09, March 31, 2009 ) BT Germany generated sales of over 1 billion euros with 1,400 employees.

BT operates since 2010 all the hotspots in the German Starbucks stores with its brand BT Openzone. In this, the customer can log in for free without registration with any Wi-Fi enabled device for two hours.

In Austria BT is represented by the BT Austria GmbH, based in Vienna, which belongs to BT Germany.

In Switzerland, BT operates under BT Switzerland Ltd.. , Headquartered in Wallisellenstrasse and offices in Bern, Basel and Geneva. Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) and Country Manager since February 2012 Luca Zappia, he followed Susanne Ruoff.
