BTS Skytrain

The Skytrain ( Thai: รถไฟฟ้า - บี ที เอ ส, pronunciation: [ bi ː ː red fajfá t ʰ i ː ʔè ː t]) is part of the public transport system in Bangkok. It is operated by Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS). The Skytrain runs separately from the Bangkok Metro, the subway in Bangkok. The lines of the skytrain are merged on stilts about 28 kilometers long and complete.

History

Originally, the system was designed with the same technology as the Vancouver SkyTrain, which was abandoned in 1992 after political interference. This first Skytrain project is sometimes referred to better distinguish the current project as the Lavalin Skytrain. The second project was based on Siemens technology, this has, except for the name " Skytrain ", but nothing in common with the first project - not just the technology but also the styling is different. His two routes - the Silom line and the Sukhumvit Line - were opened on 5 December 1999.

On two bridges over the Chao Phraya River and foundations for the Lavalin Skytrain were placed in their construction in the early 1990s. The foundation at the Taksin bridge has now been used for this purpose, to extend the Silom line across the river to Thonburi. The completion of this extension was originally scheduled for 2005, but the works were interrupted due to political interference. On 15 May 2009 the new part line was opened. There are now two stops in Thonburi District: Krung Thonburi and Wong Wian Yai.

The extension of the Sukhumvit line to the southeast was started in October 2006 and inaugurated on 12 August 2011. Other extensions of the lines are in the conversation. But not the Skytrain a completely new railway line (Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link ) is for the connection of the new airport prolonged but built, not according to the BTS technique. At Phaya Thai station there is a transfer possibility in the Airport Rail Link.

At three stops, there is a changeover point with a " blue line " of the Bangkok Metro.
