Buakea kaeuae

Buakea kaeuae is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 20-23 mm in males and 21-24 mm in females. The antennae are filiform. Head and thorax are covered with long hair. The males are slightly darker colored than the females. The drawing of the front wing is similar to that of Buakea venusta, but it is less contrasty. The basic color is dark gray and brown, the transverse fascia oblique is thin and barely visible, a light brown, brown laterally edged kidney defect is created. The hind wings are whitish mixed brown and gray. A ring stain is not created.

In the male the uncus is narrow, spatulate, tapering towards the tip. On Tegumen are medium sized roundish Peniculi ( brush-like appendages ). The Vinculum has a U-shaped sac. The Valven have a strongly sclerotized Costalrand terminating base shaped and slightly protrudes downward. The cucullus is quite thin and stretched. The juxtaposition is approximately elliptical and barely sclerotized. The aedeagus is slightly bent. The vesica has a strong and rather sharp Cornutus. It is beak -shaped and about half as long as the penis.

In females, the corpus bursae is pear-shaped and about as long as the ductus. On the corpus bursae, two signals, are approximately at right angles to it, there is a sharp spot. Along the ductus bursae there is a long, heavily sclerotized extension of the corpus bursae. The ductus is narrow and straight and only slightly sclerotized. The ostium is almost ovoid. The Postvaginalplatten are hardly sclerotized.

The beads reach a length of 30 to 35 millimeters and a thickness of 3.5 to 4.0 millimeters. The head is smooth and black, brown Prothorakalschild the pale. The body is pale pink and shimmers. The Pinnacula and Caudalplatte are black.

Dissemination

Buakea kaeuae has only been found at two localities in Kenya. In the biotopes it was evergreen bushland and around with stock with acacia grassland in 1600 to 1700 meters altitude.

Biology

The caterpillars develop in the stems of Panicum maximum.
