Buala

Province

Buala is a small town with 2,700 inhabitants on the Solomon Island of Santa Isabel and at the same time the main town and administrative center of the province, as well as the fourth largest city in the country.

Geography

Buala located on the southeastern coast of the north island 200 kilometers.

The nearest international airport is located 153 km distance in the capital Honiara on Guadalcanal; the regional airport of the city Fera Airport is located on the barrier island Fera 3 km away and is reached by water taxis.

The densely forested mountains immediately south- west of the town and reach heights of over 1,000 m, in the destination Mount Sasari 977 m ( -8.1666667, 159.55 ).

The climate is tropical with high rainfall rates.

Economy

The power supply was formerly carried out by means of diesel generators, today there is a small hydroelectric power plant.

History and Politics

Buala was and is from the colonial times to the present repeated in a trouble area, especially in the Pacific war between the Japanese and the Americans and their allies. From 1886 to Samoa Treaty ( 1899) were among village and island on the German colonial empire in the Pacific.
