Bubaque

Bubaque is an island of Bissagos archipelago, which belongs to Guinea- Bissau. Bubaque is the tourist and commercial center of the Bissagos Islands. Of the 9244 inhabitants ( 2008) account for almost half of the homonymous capital in the north of the island, the rest to a dozen villages.

Bubaque can be reached by ferry from Bissau and the aircraft. There are also links to numerous other islands in the archipelago.

History

Beginning of the 20th century, a palm oil factory and a 18 km long asphalt road was built on Bubaque German merchants. It is still the only paved road on the Bissagos Islands. The ruins of the palm oil mill is now used as a market hall.
